Lianne Aquilina studied traditional acupuncture for three years at the University of Lincoln where she was awarded a first class honours degree in complementary medicine with the specialisation of acupuncture.
Lianne is a registered member of the British Acupuncture Council. The British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) was formed in 1995. It is the largest body of professional acupuncturists in the UK and currently guarantees excellence in the following areas: Training Standards - entry to the profession is at three year undergraduate degree level training in traditional acupuncture and western sciences appropriate to practice. Safe Practice - its standards are drawn up in consultation with internationally renowned experts. Ethical Behaviour - rules are monitored and enforced with the help of experienced practitioners and independent non-acupuncturists. Lianne is also a registered member of the Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ATCM) which stands in a unique position in the United Kingdom’s healthcare system, the ATCM is actively engaged in academics, research, and the practical application of traditional Chinese medicine including acupuncture. Traditional Chinese medicine has a holistic approach to diagnosing, preventing and treating diseases. Chinese medicine is a unique and independent medical system which originated from China and developed down through the centuries imbued with the spirit of Chinese civilisation and culture. These are unique characteristics which distinguish it from orthodox medicine as they are rooted in the concept of holism - zheng ti guan nian and treatment according to syndrome differentiation - bian zheng lun zhi. The differences in approach and delivery means that traditional Chinese medicine is able to complement life sciences supporting the treatment of health and illness in today’s society. It is essential to recognise that the fundamental theory and practice of traditional Chinese medicine includes those of Qi, Yin Yang, the five elements, zang fu, the four diagnostic methods and syndrome differentiation systems.
Lianne obtained an award for studies in health by the faculty of Health, Life and Social Sciences in Lincoln in 2005. Her first research project was published in a book called ‘Professional Perspectives in Health Care’ for all health professionals, academics and students.
Lianne continues professional development and has a wide range of postgraduate training. If you have an enquiry please email Lianne below.
